Lucinda Berry has a way of diving straight into the dark, messy corners of human relationships, and this story proves just how masterfully she can unspool a psychological mystery. From the start, the shifting timelines and multiple perspectives create a relentless momentum, peeling back layers of secrets at a pace that keeps you constantly off-balance. Jumping between past and present doesn't just build tension; it forces you to re-examine what you think you know about these characters with every chapter, culminating in a jaw-dropping twist that shifts the ground right out from under you.
What really anchored the story for me was Meredith’s point of view. Watching her navigate the chaotic fallout of Kate’s reappearance was utterly heartbreaking. She continuously put everyone else’s needs before her own, playing the peacekeeper in a dynamic that was actively pulling her apart. Scott was purely frustrating to watch as he completely dismissed her feelings, blindly prioritizing Kate time and time again while stepping all over Meredith's emotional boundaries. That deep, realistic family drama makes the psychological suspense hit so much harder, turning what could have been a standard thriller into a painful, infuriating study of loyalty and misplaced devotion.
