- Vivian knows it is true but she is defending her marriage and her and Kenneth’s reputation.
- Naomi tells Ruth she’s pregnant with Kenneth’s child, but Ruth tells her she can’t tell anyone because it will ruin Ruth’s reputation in the community that she worked so hard for.
- After ignoring the pregnancy for six months, Ruth takes Naomi to Kenneth and Vivian and forces her to get an abortion.
- Afterwards, Naomi is sent to Greysun, a mental hospital where the doctors try to convince her that she was experiencing a false pregnancy.
- After six months at Greysun, Naomi convinces Jeremy to report that she kills herself so she can leave and be free of the people in her past who institutionalized her.
- Naomi becomes Beatrice.
- Beatrice stays at Jeremy’s house while undergoing plastic surgery to change her appearance.
- Beatrice gets pregnant with Jeremy’s child and they get married.
- After five months, Beatrice leaves because she realizes she cannot let go of what happened to her and needs to get revenge on Kenneth.
- Beatrice gives birth to Donna and Andrew.
- Jeremy commits suicide.
- Beatrice decides she can only handle one baby and leaves Andrew at a fire station.
- Beatrice gets a job as a receptionist at Kenneth’s office.
- Kenneth quickly starts an affair with Beatrice.
- Kenneth divorces Vivian and marries Beatrice.
- A few years later Beatrice starts locating Kenneth’s victims.
- Vivian gives birth to Kenneth’s child, Kyle, and Beatrice blackmails her into giving Kenneth full custody of Kyle.
- Years later, Beatrice tells Vivian that she is Naomi and asks her to help make a formula that mimics pregnancy so she can use it on Kenneth to punish him and then on Kyle because she is worried about him becoming like Kenneth.
- After a decade, the formula is perfected, and Beatrice puts it in Kenneth’s coffee every morning.
- After four months of strange symptoms, Kenneth accuses Beatrice of poisoning his coffee and physically assaults her.
- Beatrice uses video evidence of the beating to get Kenneth involuntarily committed.
- Beatrice tells everyone that Kenneth died of a heart attack but he remains locked up in a mental insititution.
- Pamela finishes reading this account of Beatrice’s life.
- Pamela now has five actions she must complete before Beatrice’s will reading to inherit everything.
- 1. Bury Beatrice in style, which Pamela does.
- 2. Kill them all: Pamela and Kyle kill the women in Beatrice’s basement to keep them from exposing Kyle for the man he used to be.
- 3. Visit Kayla: Pamela visits Marissa where she is living in an institution for violent children and then visits Kayla.
- Pamela and Donna kill Kenneth.
- Six months later: Pamela gives birth to a boy she names Kyle.
- Pamela gets a phone call saying that she needs to tell Kyle her secret about what happened to her in college, otherwise her secret will be exposed to the masses and she will lose everything.
This third installment in The Husband Series dives straight into a character who demands to be dissected, and getting a front-row seat to Beatrice's early life makes her feel far more human and complex than the outright villain Pamela knew. The narrative is framed around Pamela in the present, but the bulk of the story shifts into Beatrice's perspective in the past, creating an easy read driven by short, fast-moving chapters. It functions best as a direct continuation, so while it tries to bridge the gap for newcomers, the context feels light and makes the ending a bit confusing if the previous two installments aren't fresh in your mind. Beyond that context issue, the final act suffers from a baffling plot hole where a specific list of five required tasks abruptly stops numbered details after the third. Still, this grounded focus on Beatrice's past keeps the story engaging and far less out there than the wilder turns of the first book. This series feels complete to me, but we will see what the future brings.
