The Ghostwriter
June, 1975. A single night tore the Taylor family apart, leaving two teenagers dead and their brother, Vincent, forever shadowed by accusations of murder. He built an empire on horror, his own dark legend growing with every bestselling book. But some secrets are too terrifying to stay buried.
Fifty years later, ghostwriter Olivia Dumont has kept her identity a secret: she is Vincent Taylor's estranged daughter. On the brink of financial ruin, she accepts an irresistible offer to pen her father's final work. But this isn't another chilling fiction. Vincent is finally ready to break his silence, to reveal the truth of that horrific night in 1975, pulling Olivia into a story more real and deadly than any she could have imagined.

A murder mystery is one thing, but a story that makes me care this much about the people tangled up in it is something else entirely. The Ghostwriter hooked me with its buried family secrets, its shifting timelines, and the way it let the past keep pressing into the present until the truth felt impossible to ignore.
The short chapters kept the story moving, and the alternating timelines between Olivia in the present and Vincent and Poppy in the past created a steady stream of revelations without ever feeling repetitive. Poppy’s chapters were the standout for me. Getting her perspective made her feel like so much more than the victim of an old crime, and I became completely invested in uncovering what really happened to her. At first she felt like the biggest victim in this story but there is so much more to it….
The family dynamics were just as engaging as the central investigation. The side stories added depth to the characters and expanded the emotional weight of the novel without pulling attention away from the main plot. The only thing I found myself wanting more of was Jack. He had the makings of a great supporting character, and I would have loved to see him play a bigger role because every good mystery deserves a memorable sidekick.
The twists landed well, and I liked that they never felt random or thrown in just for the sake of surprise. I had my suspicions about a few things along the way, but I was never completely certain, which made the reveals feel earned. Julie Clark also wrapped everything up in a satisfying way without over explaining or leaving any important threads hanging.
If you like family secrets, dual timelines, and character-driven mysteries, then you will enjoy this book.
