Wicked Little Waltz
While most are counting down to midnight and champagne, I’m at a Viennese palace ball hunting a ghost. Dmitri Karpin has diplomatic immunity and a body count that proves he’s untouchable—until tonight.
The plan was simple: blend into the glitter, kill him elegantly, and vanish before the fireworks. But when Karpin bolts into Vienna’s dark underbelly, the mission spirals into a lethal race through waltzes and nightclubs. Between rival hitmen and a charmingly dangerous Italian assassin who won't leave me alone, the clock is officially running.
As the city celebrates, my task remains clear: end Karpin’s streak before the year does. New Year’s is for endings, and I’m the best at making them final.
- Marin - Professional assassin
- Jane - Marin’s agent
- Alessandro - Professional assassin
- Dmitri - Russian war criminal
- Marin attends a New Year’s Eve ball in Vienna to assassinate her next mark, Dmitri.
- As Marin and Alessandro dance, they realize they were both sent there to take out Dmitri and decide to work together.
- Dmitri slips away from the party.
- Marin and Alessandro tail Dmitri through the city to a night club.
- Marin and Alessandro confront Dmitri in a back room and quickly shoot him and his men.
- Marin and Alessandro go outside and watch the fireworks while the clock strikes midnight.
Wicked Little Waltz is a fine, fast-paced return to Marin’s world. It serves as a steady continuation of her overarching story, giving readers a quick update on her trajectory. However, it notably lacks the signature assassination flair that defines the rest of the series. While it succeeds in advancing the narrative, the dialed-back action leaves the story feeling a bit tame and might have you craving the higher stakes of her previous outings.
