- Christophe meets Calvin, who loves the Miracule idea and gives him another $75,000—but warns that if he doesn’t repay it in three months, Calvin will kill him.
- Tricia lets it slip that she’s the one who sent Lexi the anonymous text about Christophe.
- Christophe writes Lexi a check so she will give him cash but the check is stopped.
- Sabrina shows up at the LexICON showroom.
- Christophe receives another shipment from China; Lexi opens it and finds serum-filled bottles, confirming Miracule is a scam.
- Sabrina is furious when she sees the truth.
- Sabrina sees Lexi wearing her ring and asks her if she has her tennis bracelet too.
- Christophe goes to Sabrina and Calvin’s house where they confront him about Miracule being a scam and Christophe shoots and kills them both.
- Lexi gets a call from Florence who tells Lexi that Christophe is not her son but her lover who tried to kill her. His real name is Christophe Bouchard.
- Florence says she is on her way to LA to take down Christophe.
- Lexi goes home and confronts Christophe about the check bouncing. He says he will get her money back soon.
- Christophe visits Maxine and tells her about his new mark, Lexi Marlowe.
- Lexi looks through Christophe’s things and finds several passports under different names and several burner phones.
- Phillip says he likes LexICON’s merchandise and would like to put some of Lexi’s clothes in his stores.
- Christophe drowns Maxine in her bathtub.
- As a child, Christophe was forced by Maxine to kill her husbands.
- Maxine taught Christophe everything he knows about being a con artist.
- Maxine is the reason Lexi’s mother is in prison; after Lexi’s mother stole from her, Maxine sent thugs to their house, and one of them was killed.
- Act III
- Remy and Gilles are found dead in Las Vegas.
- Lexi killed the thug Maxine sent to threaten her mother, and her mother took the fall to protect her.
- Lexi is also the one who burned down the Marlowe’s house, killing her adoptive family.
- Lexi takes Christophe to a construction site where she pushes him into wet cement, burying him alive.
- Epilogue: The new LexICON store is built on the property where Christohpe is buried.
- Florence gets Lexi’s mother released from prison.
- Lexi is the one who killed Vescari because he corned her and threatened that if she didn’t stay away from Christophe he would ruin LexICON.
- Florence and Philip are getting married.
The Perfect Catch is a very well-written and fast-paced story; it felt like things were always happening, constantly moving the narrative forward without any lulls. The main character, Lexi, was interesting and easy to connect with. She found herself in a bad situation, but I never felt like she was making stupid choices, so I found myself truly rooting for her to succeed.
The cast size was perfect—not too many characters to keep track of—and the character development was great across the board. Plot-wise, there were several good reveals throughout the book that kept me turning pages quickly. Even though there was one obvious non-surprise, the actual twist at the end was excellent and I was genuinely surprised by it. This is a great book for anyone who loves psychological thrillers where the twists come steadily instead of one big dump at the end of the book. #ThePerfectCatch #NetGalley
