The Inheritance
A luxury private island off Scotland's wild west coast: the perfect setting for a family reunion. For the powerful Agarwal dynasty, it's also the stage for patriarch Raj's ultimate announcement: the succession plan for his multi-million dollar empire. But this gathering holds more than just high-stakes business; it's a powder keg of buried secrets, simmering resentments, and desperate ambitions.
Shalini, the weary matriarch, dreams of freedom from the family business. Their golden child, Myra, secretly faces bankruptcy despite owning the very island they stand on. Aseem, the presumed heir, is torn between his wife, Zoe—whose picture-perfect life is a façade—and his family obligation. The youngest, Aisha, arrives ready to unleash her notorious brand of havoc. Each Agarwal carries a dangerous truth they would die to keep hidden. This isn't just a reunion; it's a battleground where greed and betrayal will expose every lie and leave a trail of shattered illusions in its wake. Who will inherit the legacy, and who will become its ultimate victim?

Messy family drama done right is a great trope, and this book grabbed me from the very beginning. I love how well-written every single character was. None of them faded into the background or blurred together; their personalities and motivations were distinct and instantly recognizable, making it easy to understand what drove them - and remarkably easy to become invested in how things would shake out for every single one. Watching the ways the adult children interacted with their parents and tried to balance familial expectations with a desire for independence was what made the story so fascinating.
The book does an amazing job exploring the blurry line between love and control, showing how manipulative family ties can get without anyone talking about it. The present-day chapters bounce between Myra and Zoe, and with how short they are, the pacing never slowed down. The final twist was done extremely well and the ending felt perfectly done based on everything that led up to it.
If you like toxic family drama, multiple POVs with distinct voices, and dark secrets unraveling, then you will love this book.
