The Ghost Writer
Grace Logan can't turn down the chance to ghostwrite the memoir of Claudia Blackwood, a famous author once accused of a horrific triple murder. Isolated in her island mansion, Claudia is battling ataxia and finally ready to confront her dark past. But as Grace digs deeper, the conclusion to Claudia's story might be far deadlier than a simple confession.
- Grace - True crime ghostwriter

- Claudia - Gothic horror novelist
- Jacques - Claudia’s high school boyfriend
- Jill - A young girl killed alongside Jacques
- Danny - Jacques’s little brother

- Claudia supposedly killed Jacques, Jill and Danny when she was seventeen after she found Jacques cheating on her.
- She was never convicted and always claimed not to remember the event.
- Nora was found dead in the water after going for a walk on the widow’s walk.
- Claudia finds a note from Nora saying that someone on the island is trying to kill her to keep Claudia from telling her secret.
- Andy died recently in a boat explosion. His mistress was on the boat with him.

- Claudia tells Grace she saw her push Jacques and Jill over the cliff and stab Danny for witnessing it.
- Grace tries to push Claudia’s wheelchair off a cliff, but Claudia jumps up and attacks Grace.
- Claudia faking illness and wanting a ghostwriter was all a setup. She needed to see Grace’s reaction to the accusation to confirm it was real and not a false memory.
- Grace’s attempt to kill Claudia proves the memories were real.
- Nora was not real, she was part of the setup.
- Grace also killed her husband and his mistress.
The Ghostwriter by Loreth Ann White is an intriguing mystery novella that keeps you hooked. Because of the shorter format, there is not much character development, but the story moves fast enough that it doesn't drag the plot down.
The best part is that it delivers on the suspense with a really solid, satisfying reveal at the end. It is a quick, entertaining read that manages to pack a good punch even with the limited page count.
