- Through this donation, Rosie comes into contact with Roger, the girl's father, and eventually tells him the truth: Ian was the one driving.
- Ian had been abusive in all of his marriages, and the ex-wives recently realized that Emma was also beginning to suffer under him.
- United by the accident and Emma's situation, the ex-wives agree Ian must face consequences.
- Rosie tampers with the restaurant's security cameras and leaves the back door unlocked.
- This allows Roger to sneak inside and attack Ian with a baseball bat while he is in the walk-in freezer.
- Sometime after closing, Danny returns to the restaurant to get his phone. He hears the freezer door creak, sees it cracked open, and pushes it shut to preserve the food.
- The narration notes that "the door seems to moan in thanks," implying Ian was still alive after the attack and that Danny unknowingly sealed him inside to die.
This book from the alibis series was fun read. It felt a little too packed full of information/details in order to set up lots of red herrings but ultimately the storyline was good and the ending was jaw dropping.
