Salem’s Fall
James Woodsen, a Harvard Law standout and the youngest associate at a prestigious Boston firm, is one mistake away from career ruin. Her final chance at redemption arrives with the defense of Damien Blackhollow, a charismatic billionaire accused of murdering his fiancée. What begins as a high-stakes legal battle quickly spirals when James’s investigation leads her to Salem’s Fall, a New England town harboring a sinister history of ritualistic killings and a powerful secret society tied to the Blackhollow bloodline.
Isolated in the eerie town with only her black cat for company, James uncovers a legacy of darkness that suggests her client may be far more dangerous than he appears. As Halloween approaches and the body count rises, the line between professional duty and personal obsession blurs. James soon realizes that losing this case isn't just a threat to her legal career—it’s a death sentence.

I enjoyed reading Salem's Fall. It has medium-sized chapters that establish a steady pace early on. The first half is highly engaging, pulling the reader into what appears to be a grounded murder mystery. James is a standout character who is incredibly likable and easy to sympathize with right from the start.
As the plot progresses, the pacing begins to drag and the narrative takes a sharp turn. It almost feels like reading two entirely different books. While the initial focus relies on a traditional whodunit atmosphere, the second half pivots heavily into witchcraft and the occult.
Despite this disjointed shift in genre, the strong start and excellent character building make it a worthwhile read. With those heavy supernatural and witchy elements taking over the later chapters, it makes an ideal choice to pick up for a spooky Halloween time read.
