Miranda Rijks knows exactly how to build a tense atmosphere that refuses to let up. Just One Bite delivers a constant, nagging sense of suspense that hooked me right away. The pacing is fast, driven by short chapters that make it easy to fly through.
The core of this story is the psychological tightrope it walks. I spent most of the book trying to figure out if Brittany was losing her grip on reality or if she was the only one seeing the truth. What amplifies the tension is her profound isolation. No one believes her version of events, and watching even her husband and sister doubt her character creates a paranoia that kept me second-guessing every interaction.
While the initial wrap-up fell a little flat for me, Rijks pulls the rug out with a sharp, unexpected twist after the ending that completely redeems the finale. It is a tight thriller that gets straight to the point without dragging anything out. If you like paranoid protagonists, and late-game twists, then you will enjoy this book.
