I Want Your Family
To them, I’m just a delivery driver, a nameless face dropping off packages at their perfect home. They see a picture-perfect family; I see a wife who doesn't deserve the life she has. Sadie is spiraling, and her husband, Reid, deserves someone who actually appreciates him.
I’ve watched from the driveway long enough. Now, Reid is finally starting to notice me. Sadie had her chance, but I’m ready to step through that yellow door and claim her family as my own—no matter what it takes.
- Sadie - Reid’s wife
- Reid - Sadie’s husband
- Luna (real name Sarah) - Delivery driver

- Reid apologized, but Sadie is struggling to move past it.
- Luna has always wanted a stable family, as her parents gave her up for adoption when she was a teen.
- On a train, Luna runs into Caitlyn, Ali, and Jordan - the family she tried to infiltrate before becoming obsessed with Sadie and Reid.
- Caitlyn, Ali and Jordan have a restraining order against Luna.
- Luna’s real name is Sarah Vanguard. After the restraining order from Caitlyn’s family, she bought fake IDs and became Luna to start over without her legal record.
- Reid suggests he and Sadie take a weekend away to see if their marriage is salvageable, and Luna eavesdrops on the conversation.
- Before: Luna visits Ali and claims she overheard Caitlyn hiring a hitman to kill him.
- Caitlyn and Jordan return, and Ali confronts Caitlyn. He isn’t sure whom to believe until Jordan shows a photo he took of Luna following the family weeks earlier.
- Present: Luna breaks into Reid and Sadie’s house while they’re away for the weekend.
- Luna stakes out Sadie’s parents’ house, where Arthur and Ruby are staying. When she believes they’re out, she sets it on fire.
- Arthur, Ruby, and Sadie’s mother escape unscathed, but Sadie’s father is hospitalized in intensive care and eventually recovers.
- At a hotel bar, the bartender greets Reid by name and mistakenly calls Sadie “Gemma.”
- Sadie lashes out at Reid, but he insists he never brought Gemma to the hotel and doesn’t know how the bartender knew his name.
- Sadie tells Reid she wants a divorce and takes a taxi to her parent’s house.
- Reid returns home to find there had been a break-in: a family portrait with Sadie cut out and a note using the nickname Gemma once had for him is on the kitchen table, making him suspect Gemma.
- Police tell Sadie that they have Gemma in custody for starting the fire.
- Luna pays a homeless man to say he saw Gemma in the neighborhood the night of the fire and plants the gas can she used to start the fire in Gemma’s garbage can.
- She also paid the barman at the hotel to say Hi to Reid and call Sadie Gemma.
- Luna dresses up and encounters Reid at the hotel bar after he’s been kicked out of his home.

- Reid tells Luna he might lose the kids and the house in the divorce. Luna advises him to fight for them and warns that Sadie may have a drinking problem.
- Luna waits outside Sadie’s house, then follows her taking Arthur and Ruby to school and calls 999 to report an erratic driver.
- Sadie is pulled over, fails a breathalyzer, and is arrested for drunk driving.
- Luna had secretly put powdered alcohol in Sadie’s vitamins, causing the failed test.
- Reid is awarded full custody of Arthur and Ruby and the house due to Sadie’s arrest.
- Sadie wonders who is sabotaging her, realizing it can’t be Gemma—who’s in prison awaiting trial—and questions whether Gemma was actually framed for the arson at her parents’ house.
- Gemma is found guilty of arson and sentenced to ten years in prison.
- Reid tells Sadie he is dating someone, and she realizes she wants her family back.
- Reid takes Arthur and Ruby to the park to meet Luna and Reid tells Luna he wants her to move in.
This was a solid 4-star read told through a dual perspective that bounces back and forth between Sadie and Luna.
I found myself sympathizing with both women; they are both dealing with tough situations, and Hurst does a good job of making you feel the weight of their circumstances.
I generally enjoy Daniel Hurst’s writing style but this story felt unbalanced. The narrative relies heavily on the characters' internal thoughts rather than actual dialogue. Because of this, the pacing dragged at times, and I found myself just wishing the characters would interact with each other more. That being said, the story kept me hooked enough to the end, and the way things wrapped up... this book is absolutely begging for a sequel!
