You're invited to poker night. Forget your usual girls' night in - this one is hosted by Greed herself, and the stakes are higher than you can imagine. Sips, snacks, and scheming subterfuge are on the menu, but don't mistake comfort for safety. Around this table, the Seven Deadly Sins are your opponents, and every shadow holds a different kind of danger.
Greed is bewitching, magnetic, and utterly fatal. She’ll lure you in with promises of fulfillment and bliss, only to leave you haunted after you lose it all. - Penelope stabs Leah in the chest.
- With those deaths, Penelope becomes the leader of the sins.
- Penelope kills Desiree.
- Lyssa kills Penelope.
- Elodie sprinkles a powder on Penelope that will ensure she stays dead so Elodie and Lyssa can keep their power in the group.
- Lyssa kills herself so Elodie can be the leader of the group because they are in love.
- Elodie kills herself because all of the sins must be dead at the same time for the powder to work.
- Epilogue: Elodie and Lyssa pick a new sin, Addiction, to replace Envy.
A slow start can usually be forgiven if the payoff delivers something sharp, but that never quite materialized here. The first half felt like a chore to push through while the foundation was laid, and my attention kept drifting.
Things picked up once the action finally kicked off in the second half, but the momentum was constantly undercut by the dialogue. Instead of feeling clever or cunning, the interactions devolved into petty, juvenile bickering that made it hard to take anyone seriously. The epilogue managed to pull off a solid, intriguing note, but it came far too late to make up for the tedious setup and immature banter.
If you like fast-paced action, petty interpersonal drama, and twisty epilogues, then you may enjoy this book.
