M.A. Green built an interesting storyline in A Lethal Tempest - a dark mystery centered around a calculated murder frame-up - but the execution makes it tough to follow. The narrative jumps between different settings and a large cast of characters. What really threw me, though, was how many of those characters are left completely unnamed.
Because the vignette-style perspective shifts so rapidly among these nameless figures, I found myself having to focus extra hard to make sure I was keeping track of the plot. Still, I am glad I stuck with it. The underlying premise is strong enough to pull you through the confusing patches, and Green manages to deliver a great conclusion. The ending brings everything together in a way that rewards your patience and leaves a lasting positive impression. If you like sprawling, puzzle-box mysteries with a satisfying payoff, you will enjoy this book.
